ELECTRONIC MEDICINE                                                                                                                  Links on eMedicine on internet

Electronic medicine is the use of electronic means or ICT to study and/or practice medicine. ICT refers to three items- telephony, cybernetics and microcomputer. When ICT is used to study medicine it is called electronic learning; when used to practice medicine it is referred to as electronic practice. A combination of the two is then called electronic medicine. University of Jos is world wide pioneer in the area of electronic practice.

University of Jos turned itself into a home of Electronic Medicine in December 2005 when the medical school made a demonstration at the National Universities' Commission (NUC)  Science and Technology Fair in ABUJA by the then Dean, Professor Oluwole Ogunranti. This demonstration was later selected as the premier one to be aired by the NTA Network from all Nigerian Universities and was shown on television network through the country five times between 2006 and 2007. Since then  the Jos Medical School has been recognized in Nigeria as a centre of Electronic Medicine. Also the existing electronic facilities for medicine have been placed on the Medical School's internet web site at www.unijosmedicine.org

With the use and practice of all the programs above, a student is able to learn medicine on his/her own and augment all the learning processes in the medical school. Any one is free to join in this learning endeavor which is totally free on internet (address above) containing all the programs above except the videos. Videos can only be found in the Faculty's Medical Illustration and  Technology Unit (MITU) in Jos.
